Shoe Fate?
Shoe Diva Contributor: america

Sometimes you simply fall in love with a pair of shoes, but it isn’t meant to be… I love the cut and the snakeskin. And the color… I mean when you try on a shoe that already matches your toe nail polish you have to think that it might be a sign!

I wanted these shoes. But look very carefully and see if you can figure out why they are not mine… Give up? Look at the heel cage. There is about a half centimeter gap between my heel and the shoe! I briefly considered whether I could put in heel padding like I have done with a couple of the used pairs that I have bought. But I reminded myself that $200 shoes should fit really well, and not be made acceptable. So I left them there and made it through the entire Hot Winter Tango festival without buying a pair of shoes!

I have been mulling over whether I might be a 37, not a 38. I have a lot of 38s that fit me pretty well, but I tried on some sling back 37s that fit me better than my 38s. So here is the problem. When I got home, I found the same pair in 37 at Felina! They are gorgeous! But can I wear a 37 in a closed heel? Grrrrrr. I liked it better when my feet seemed easy to fit!

I don’t really need any advice. I just wanted to share my pain… I am sure you have all been there! Rock on shoe sisters!

  1. They looked so pretty on you…maybe you should try them in 37 as well.

I totally agree with you on the size issue and it is very frustrating sometimes, too. I am very much like you, wearing size between 37 and 38.

After tying on way too many pairs of both sizes, my conclusion is that if the style of the toe box is the classic single band than go w/ 37. Any other round, peep toe or butterfly front, I would go w/ 38. Oh, the heels matter, too. My favorite is the 7,5 cm / 3 inch heel, I could dance in them for over 4 hours w/o feeling a thing!

As painful as it sounds, the quest for the perfect pair of Tango shoes continues…..

  2. I’ve learned a few other things about CiF sizing (even though I’m not really wearing them anymore).

I am in between sizes and have this problem allthe time. I can usually get in to a slingback 36, a suede open toe 36 with a heel cage, but not a 36 made from stiff leather/brocade or satin.

A 37 open toe never fits me in CiF.

A slingback will allow for slightly smaller sizing since they won’t press your toes in to the front of the shoe as much as a close heel will, so you can fudge with the smaller size in a slingback.

    Those are pretty ravishing.

However, I have found that Greta Flora comes in strong where CiF is lacking on the half size/slightly wide fit needs (and the low heel options).

You’d probably be a very comfortable 37 in their shoes as they fit a hair wide when you get the suede. Regular leathers seem to fit like regular width. Their suedes are very soft and stretch quickly. Their leather takes a little longer.

  3. They look great – I know that frustration of finding the perfect shoe but not quite the right fit! as I am a size 40.5 and usually the sizes are 40 or 41. I have once in the past bought a high heeled leather shoe (not a dance shoe) that was too tight across the front and had it stretched at a Cobblers – it was a success! So you could think of getting the slightly tighter shoe and getting it stretched? As long as the length was good, this worked for me. cheers Fern
